Max GI specialist Apt: Update on blood in the stool

July 11, 2007

Max and I went to CHOP yesterday which is the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He saw a specialist for his stomach. Good news! The doctors were not worried especially because he is so chunky and healthy. They checked his stomach and put a finger up his butt, which Max was not too happy about. I found out that breastfed babies can either poop once a week to every time they feed an d that is normal. I also talked a lot about his allergies to food and the doctor said he may or may not grow out of them, which I figured as well. So for now, we are staying away from the foods that cause problems and that is fine with me. It was good just to get him checked out. The dloctor thinks he had an anal fissure, which is this . He said it is like having chapped lip but in your butt. OUCH!!

So on another note, Max pulled himself up. Try and picture this..I am cooking..I see him out of the corner of my eye in a sqaut position with his arms holding on to the step stool and then he pulls himself up! Oh BOY! I was screaming with laugfter. I cannot believe that this kid came out of me not even 7 months ago and now he is doing all of these things-meaning that he is learnin g how to explore the world on his own. It is amazing.

Yesterday, when we were leaving CHOP, I realized how lucky I am. I have a boy that is healthy and a family that is healthy. Max and I were in the elevator and I said to him, “Max this is a place where children come when they are sick. This is place that you had to come to see a doctor for your tummy but he told us that you were not sick. We are very lucky. N ow let’s send a blessing to all the children who do not feel so good here.” Then I kissed him and said thank you.
