A typical night for Max..

May 14, 2007

Our nights are basically like this..

Max has his usual nap at 6 pm till 7 pm and then he has a bath. He still loves his bath and I make it really warm. If he does not nap at 6 pm then he usually falls asleep by 7 pm.

We finish his bath and then we rub oils all over his body, dress him in a onsie (unless the air is on high and then we put on a long sleeve sleepy), and comb his hair. We then read a few books but half of the time, he does not even make it past the second book. Then he rubs his hair and his eyes and his ears. He even pulls his ears and then does what we call the “wind shield wiper” over his forehead. His flings his arm back and forth and back and forth.

Then he nurses and then he calms down. Then he may start the wipers again and that is when I swaddle him and start saying…sshhhhh, sshhhhh, sshhhh or singing, “mama’s best baby, mama’s best baby” and then he sighs and settles down.

He has started to sleep with his knees in the air and actually like when I prop his feet under a pillowed blanket and then snug his end with an stuffed animal on one side and his blanki on the other. I also start to mimic his noises and that settles him even more. I rub his forehead, tickle his arms, play with his hair and glide my hands over his face.

He settles himself into sleep and that is our night. Then he wakes up 3 hours later to nurse and 3 hours after that. People keep asking me if I am tired because he is not sleeping through the whole night but I am not. I actually love this time. I love my time with Max.
