It was my first time seeing my little baby not feeling well. I am sure that the plane ride and just the stress on little baby’s body brought on this cold. I felt like I have been fighting something too. Anyway, the little one started with a fever of 99.8 and did not go over 100.7 but I got nervous because both my husband and I have had ear problems at children. My hubby almost needed to get tubes-UGH! So that was in the back of my mind. The little one was trying to be such a sport and laugh and smile but the nasty mucous in his nose was causing a lot of problems. I pulled out all of the tricks: The mucous sucking machine that plays music and the diffuser with all sorts of smells to open up his passages. I was putting cold compresses on his head and neck. But he was still moaning. He would try to nurse, try to fall asleep but the nasty mucous was giving him a run for his money. At first I stayed calm. LOL.
The Dr. instructed me to get two homeopathic meds and we did that for 4 hours until his temp went up and the crying got worse. We gave him Tylenol, the baby wonder drug.
This is when it fell apart. Daddy was suggesting to Mommy, me, a few tips and that is when I snapped but he was RIGHT. UGH. I said, “well then why don’t you give it a try”…and then he just looked at me because he knew that I knew it was not nice. Of course, I then began to feel like a was a BAD mom and that DHS would be called because I did not know what MY son needed. Yes he did want to be on my chest and his Dad was right..why..because his Dad knows him too. And yes, we were both nervous and feeling concerned for our little boy.
But the tylenol stopped helping and after a few hours of him crying off and on, the Dr. told us that it may be an ear infection and to go to CHOP so we got the baby..ran around the house like nuts and put clothes and shoes on and got the baby in the car..HE FELL ASLEEP..LOL..HE FELL ASLEEP..
So we called Dr. Daphne and told her that he feel asleep and that we would still go in and get him checked..then he woke and smiled..giggled..smiled..and giggled..then the triage nurse checked him and stuck a thermometer up his butt. She asked allergies?? and I said yes to all..then she said..at this early age?? and then I wanted to pull her hair and beat her to a pulp (it was 12:00 am and I was a little sensitive for comments from people I don’t know or people I do know (ie. my Hubby). So they said…it will be 4 hours and we looked around and looked at happy Max and went home. It took a little crying and walking and soothing and some more Tylenol and he went to sleep. He woke to nurse once and then fell back asleep with some more Tylenol.
So I think I know that next time I need to not attack those who are trying to help but as a mom, I got so protective..almost like when little Max first arrived in the hospital. All in all, this was a great first lesson.
